Franciscan Hospital For Children Receives Donation from Winter, Wyman To Fund Pediatric Crib Program

Local Hospital Learns that Winter, Wyman Employees Voted to Forgo Annual Holiday Party to Fund Cribs for Pulmonary Rehabilitation Unit

BOSTON, MA, January 23, 2009—Franciscan Hospital for Children (FHC), a pediatric rehabilitation hospital announced some of the best news Winter, Wyman Funds Franciscan Hospital for Children's Pulmonary Rehabilitation Unit Cribsfor their children and families this past holiday season: local supporter Winter, Wyman, a staffing firm headquartered in Waltham, MA, donated $15,000 to purchase new hospital-grade cribs for their Pediatric Pulmonary Rehabilitation Unit.

Franciscan Hospital for Children offers comprehensive programs with services and facilities to address the medical, behavioral and educational needs of children and adolescents always keeping the ultimate goal in mind—each child reaching his or her greatest potential. With more than two-thirds of the patients coming from low-income or single parent homes, and more than half belonging to a minority group, the children represent some of the most underserved and needy populations in the state.

The holiday season is a special time for families to cherish being together and that is more difficult to do with a hospitalized child. This past December, the 165 employees of Winter, Wyman decided to give a courageous group of children the gift of comfort, and hopefully a quicker recovery, by voting to forgo the company’s annual holiday party and instead donate those funds to the hospital to purchase pediatric hospital-grade cribs.

“Our staff, the children in the unit, and their families are grateful to all the employees at Winter, Wyman for their generous donation. The children will get great comfort from these special cribs as they are the right ‘tools’ that will aid them in their recoveries,” said Steven Snyder, Chief Development Officer at Franciscan Hospital for Children.

“Our Pediatric Pulmonary Rehabilitation Unit treats ventilator-dependent children suffering from respiratory failure. These are some of our youngest and most vulnerable children, Steven Snyder, Franciscan Hospital for Children; Ruth Wyser, Winter, Wyman Community Development Manager; Bob Boudreau, Winter, Wyman CEOmost of whom are still infants confined to cribs. The Winter, Wyman donation will enable the hospital to purchase new ‘Cub’ Pediatric Cribs by Stryker, which are specially designed to better treat these children,” said Snyder.

“Winter, Wyman actively supports our community through a variety of donations and in-service work, but we also wanted to make a real difference in the minds, hearts, development and care of a group of children,” said Bob Boudreau, CEO of Winter, Wyman. “We could think of no better way to celebrate the holidays as a company than to assist Franciscan Hospital for Children.”
