On hiring decisions, go with the person who has made the most out of the opportunities they've had in the past.

The biggest mistake I see employers make is when they find the perfect candidate, but does not make an offer and instead compares that perfect candidate to others before making the offer. The time it takes to interview the other candidates leaves the door open to losing the perfect candidate.
